Hooah Mail

On December 1, 2009 the U.S. Army launched HooahMail. This is a free service in which family and friends can send letters electronically to anyone serving in Afghanistan. Letters can be delived to our soldiers in as little as 24 hours.

You set up an account via http://www.hooahmail.us/ and enter your soldiers information and mailing address. You compose your letter and once you hit the "send" button your encrypted letter is sent to the servers of designated machines in one of several locations in Afghanistan. At least once a day Army postal clerks turn on the machines which print, fold and seal the letters in addressed envelopes for delivery through the in-country military postal system. You may also track the status of your letter. You can log into you account and you will be able to see when your letter has been received at the HooahMail server, when the letter has been downloaded to the terminal, and finally once your letter has been printed and dispatched for delivery. To ensure your privacy at no time during this process can your letter be read.

In order to send a letter you will first need to add your soldier's mailing address by following these steps.

  1. Go to your address book and select "add address"
  2. Select the appropriate zip code (APO AE 09354 or 09364)
  3. Select the appropriate FOB (Airborne or Shank)
  4. Skip selecting a task force. Just select "continue"
  5. Then select the unit (401st MP Company or 3/401st MP Company)
  6. And add your soldier's name

The addresses are as follows:

For Headquarters, 1st Platoon and 2nd Platoon

401st MP CO
FOB Airborne
APO AE 09354

For 3rd Platoon
3/401st MP CO
FOB Shank
APO AE 09364
